The King’s College campus came together on Wednesday, April 23rd, to immerse themselves in languages, cultures, and cuisine at the “Taste of a Global Language” event, held in the Toole Lobby of the Campus Center.

The event was a great opportunity for the campus to learn new languages from student and faculty presenters. Presenters prepared posters and taught their designated language to attendees as they navigated the event’s learning stations. The event offered a variety of languages, including Swahili, French, Spanish, Haitian Creole, American Sign Language, dialects from Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom, and even text and Gen-Z lingo.

Attendees got a chance to learn basic phrases in each language and deepen their appreciation for the cultures behind them. After completing the language experience, participants were invited to the food area, where they sampled traditional dishes representing corresponding cultures.

Clemintine Mwefu '27 shares her inspiration for participating as a student presenter at the event:

“As someone who speaks multiple languages and comes from a different cultural background, participating in the Taste of Global Language event is a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with others, share my culture, and learn from theirs. I believe language is not just a tool for communication but also a bridge between people, and I love being part of events that celebrate that. I am honored to share what I know and help others discover the beauty of different languages and cultures.”

The “Taste of a Global Language” event is a part of the Global Diversity Festival, an initiative at King's College designed to foster cultural understanding, inclusion, and community engagement through interactive education. The Global Diversity Festival is organized by the Multicultural and International Student Program (MISP).
